The purpose of E3DELING project is to develop a methodology for the quality assessment and quality control of 3D lines (spatial data) that can be applied by spatial data producers to determine product quality.

We believe that the issue is of great interest and relevance to the geomatics industry for the following two reasons:

1º) The line elements are abundant in spatial data. This type of information is useful (e.g. for navigation, routing and guided vehicles) and there is a great economic activity around it. This information will be more important in the near future due to the emergence of unmanned vehicles and the electric/hybrid vehicles that require knowing the topographic profile to optimize the cycles of charge and discharge of their batteries.

2º) Nowadays there are no methods for evaluating and controlling quality 3D lines. 2D methods exist but no one has proposed and tested methods for the 3D case and, even less, being operational in production processes.

In our research group GIIC we have been many years investigating on quality and especially the positional component. We have also developed the ConPoCar project which was focused on the positional accuracy of 2D line elements. In this project we developed an evaluation methodology for the planimetric control of 2D lines.
